Preparations & Directions

Preparations
  • Use of a hospital tank is recommended or remove incompatible species before treating.
  • Maintain normal carbon filtration and use of UV sterilizer (if present) during treatment.
  • Remove ion exchange resins and heavy metal adsorbing filter pads during treatment.
  • Maintain aeration and water flow.
  • Discontinue skimmer during treatment.
Directions

Add dose directly to aquarium or hospital tank

Treatment only requires one dose, Coppersafe is stable in water for up to 30 days

Treatment period varies based on conditions and disease, see notes for additional information.

Dose

Add 1 teaspoon (5 ml) per 4 U.S. gallons (15 L).

Notes

Do not overdose

  • Therapeutic level of Coppersafe is between 1.5 – 2.0 ppm. The copper level is stable in water for up to 30 days and does not need continuous dosing. Always test with a copper test kit like Fritz Copper Test Kit before adding additional copper.
  • If water changes are performed during the treatment period, dose copper again based on the volume of the replacement water only.

Scaleless species

  • Coppersafe may be used with scaleless species at a low dose.

  • Start with a ¼ dose (5 mL/1 tsp per 16 gallons of water) and slowly increase up to a half dose (5 mL/1 tsp per 8 gallons of water).

  • If any distress is observed, be prepared to perform a partial water change to reduce the copper level quickly.

Copper adsorption

  • Some substrates or aquarium decorations may adsorb copper out of the water reducing the level to below the therapeutic range. This may reduce the effectiveness of the treatment.Monitor the copper level regularly.
  • Items that have been exposed to a copper treatment should not be used with desirable invertebrates as they may leach copper into the water column.

Precautions: Keep out of reach of children. Warnings: This product is intended for the exclusive use with ornamental fish and/or other ornamental organisms and is not intended for use with humans or fish for human consumption.
