Fritz Algae Clean Out targets string algae, blanketweed and green water caused by single-celled algae. Excessive algae growth is the most common complaint of aquarium keepers of all experience levels. Left unchecked, it is both unattractive and hazardous to fish and plant life. Fritz Algae Clean Out is the most concentrated EPA-registered algaecide formula available. Unlike some algaecides on the market, Fritz Algae Clean Out contains no copper and is a selective algae control product that will not harm fish or live plants when used as directed.
Fritz Algae Clean Out is effective in both freshwater and saltwater aquariums, fountains and small ponds.
Manually remove as much algae as possible before treatment, and after treatment.
Add directly to aquarium, repeat dose every three days until algae is controlled.
Perform a water change 1-2 days after treatment to remove excess nutrients.
If possible, turn aquarium lights off to further inhibit algae growth.
Add 6 drops per 10 U.S. gallons (37 L).
-or-
2.5 mL (1/2 tsp) per 30 U.S. gallons (114L)
Maintain use of UV sterilizer if present
Safe for use with saltwater invertebrates and coral.
Not safe for use with freshwater invertebrates including snails, shrimp, clams, other crustaceans or molluscs; remove these types of livestock before dosing.
For the most accurate dosing, use the total water volume of your entire system — including sumps — less any displacement from substrate, rocks, and decorations. Note that some imperial measurements are rounded to the nearest common measure for ease of use.
Yes, Algae Clean Out can be used in any system accessible by pets and wildlife, including birds, amphibians, and reptiles. It will not cause harm if treated water is ingested.
Fritz Algae Clean Out eliminates existing algae growth. It does not prevent new algae growth from occurring. To prevent additional algae growth, you have to remove any excess nutrients (foods, phosphates, direct sunlight) from your aquarium or pond. Ornamental plants can be used to consume some of those excess nutrients.
No, it is not safe or recommended to exceed the label dosage. Use repeat doses per the directions if needed and find out what is causing the algae growth: phosphates, uneaten foods, hours of direct sunlight, etc. We recommend using FritzZyme® TurboClean to help control phosphate and nitrate levels.
