FritzZyme® 7

The Original Live Nitrifying Bacteria

Rapidly establish a natural, healthy bio-filter with live nitrifying bacteria
  • Prevents “new tank syndrome”
  • Allows for immediate introduction of fish
  • Naturally eliminates toxic ammonia and nitrite
  • Great for use after maintenance
  • No need for refrigeration

Overview

FritzZyme® 7 contains live freshwater-specific strains of live nitrifying bacteria proven to reduce fish loss due to toxic levels of ammonia and nitrite. Nitrifying bacteria can take weeks to naturally establish colonies in new aquariums while ammonia and nitrite can reach lethal levels in only a few days. FritzZyme 7 provides bacteria proven to rapidly seed biofilters, greatly reducing the natural cycle time allowing for safe, faster addition of livestock.

Real live bacteria

Only true nitrifying bacteria can cycle an aquarium. FritzZyme 7 contains live, aquarium-proven strains—carefully buffered for stability so they’re alive and effective when you add them.

Trusted by professionals

From beginners to world-class public aquariums, aquarists rely on FritzZyme nitrifying bacteria to keep aquatic life safe and thriving.

Proven over 40 years

Fritz was the first to commercially produce live nitrifying bacteria for aquariums—and has been leading the way ever since with continuous innovation and quality.

Why add nitrifying bacteria to your aquarium?

It’s all about the nitrogen cycle and how long it takes.

Cycling with FritzZyme 7*

FritzZyme 7 Live Nitrifying Bacteria provides the species of freshwater-specific bacteria proven to rapidly seed biofilters. Since the bio-filter is established immediately, ammonia and nitrite remain at safe levels during the nitrogen cycle.**

Cycling without added bacteria

Without an established biofilter, ammonia and nitrite levels can reach toxic levels in only a few days while the nitrogen cycle may take up to several weeks.

*Cycle time can vary depending on amount of livestock, feeding and other factors. Graphs are for illustrative purposes only. **Nitrate is removed from aquariums by regular water changes.

Directions

Remove chlorine and chloramines with a water conditioner prior to adding FritzZyme 7.

Discontinue use of UV sterilizers (if present) prior to and 4 days after each application.

Shake well, add directly to aquarium

Add livestock within 24 hours, do not overstock or overfeed

Monitor ammonia and nitrite levels daily

Dose for new systems

Add 4 oz (119 mL / ½ cup) per 10 US gallons (38 L)

Repeat dosing is not required. To decrease cycling time or for larger stock levels, dose may be increased up to 10x or repeated as desired. Consult the Ideal Parameters table if cycling time is not progressing as expected.

Dose for maintenance

Add 1 oz (30 mL) per 10 US gallons (38 L)

Maintenance dose may be applied as needed, such as when adding new livestock, replacing filter media, or after using medications.

FritzZyme 7 is a live product, do not freeze or overheat. Store in a cool, dark place until ready to use.

For a large livestock system or systems with heavy bioload, new system dosage may be safely increased up to 10x.

Use FritzZyme 7 before the expiration date on the package to ensure viability.

Variations of odor and color between bottles is normal. Lack of odor or a strong odor does not mean the bacteria are dead.

Dose calculator

For the most accurate dosing, use the total water volume of your entire system — including sumps — less any displacement from substrate, rocks, and decorations. Note that some imperial measurements are rounded to the nearest common measure for ease of use.

Ideal Parameters

Like any other living organism, FritzZyme nitrifying bacteria will thrive and perform the best in the right environment. Outside of the ranges below, performance may slow.
