Fritz Reef Pro Mix is formulated by researchers and marine scientists and manufactured using only the highest quality raw materials that contain the major and minor elements found in natural seawater that are necessary for marine and reef animals. These essential minerals and trace elements, along with correct pH and buffering capacity, support the health and longevity of your reef inhabitants.
RPM is manufactured in our own facility with equipment dedicated to aquatics to ensure complete quality control.
Every batch is tested by our in-house quality control and assigned a lot number to ensure its quality and purity before it is shipped.
RPM is used by public aquariums, zoos, research institutions, adventure parks and hobbyists worldwide.
Although dechlorinated water can be used when mixing Fritz RPM, it is best to use RO/DI water quality checked by a TDS (total dissolved solids) meter. TDS should be less that 10 ppm, 0 is preferred. TDS above 10 ppm can affect final water parameters.
Never mix dry salt directly into systems with livestock present
Fill a clean mixing container (dedicated to saltwater mixing only) with desired amount of water to be prepared.
Slowly add Fritz RPM salt, mix and circulate until clear. Use the RPM dose calculator below to determine the amount of salt needed for your desired salinity.
Verify salinity with a calibrated refractometer once mix is fully dissolved and clear. Adjust if needed by adding a small portion of salt or water until desired salinity is reached.
Alkalinity and pH will stabilize about 2 hours after mix has fully dissolved.
Once mixed to a clear solution, add a heater to the water to bring to the current temperature of your aquarium.
Add ½ cup per gallon
The mixing ratio by weight is:
5 oz per gallon or 38 g per liter
RPM will mix in about 15 minutes. If water does not mix clear, please see below for troubleshooting tips.
For best results, use water between 70°-75°F (21°-24°C) when mixing RPM
Mix slowly to help prevent precipitation of calcium, alkalinity and other elements. Use a mixing pump and an airstone when mixing RPM. This will also help to avoid concentrated areas of material and precipitation.
Parameters (alkalinity, calcium, and magnesium) are expected based on a specific gravity of 1.025. If mixing to a lower salinity/specific gravity, major parameters will also be lower than those stated in the Parameters chart.
Keep out of reach of children. Not for human consumption. Generates slight heat when added to water; avoid handling with wet hands. Contact with dry powder may cause skin and/or eye irritation. In case of contact, flush eyes with cool water and seek immediate medical attention.
These parameters reflect Fritz Aquatics quality control pass ranges, the median is targeted.
Note: source water can greatly affect parameters especially alkalinity. Our quality control is conducted using RO/DI water at a neutral pH and a TDS of 0.

Mixing synthetic sea salt in water is a complex chemical reaction. Fritz RPM is made in small batches and each lot numbered and checked by quality control twice. However, it is always good practice to check every fresh mix you prepare to confirm your parameters are what you prefer for your system.
When troubleshooting, measure and record all of your parameters. Only knowing one or two and not all three will give you an incomplete picture. Here are some common situations you may come across and how to address them:
